The History of Balancins

In 1962, Perkins Diesel Engine Company sent a team of Englishmen to São Paulo, Brazil, to establish a facility to manufacture engines for the Willy’s Jeep Company and the Massey Ferguson Tractor Company.

For these Englishmen, this was no small task since they could not speak Portuguese and because there was no supplier base in São Paulo.

Needless to say, they were excited when they met Mr. Philip Couri who could speak English and who was willing to become a supplier. Soon, a used English-made lathe appeared in the garage behind Mr. Couri’s house. At the same time, an Englishman taught Mr. Couri and one of his employees how to machine rocker levers.

A few months later, at the first board meeting, a corporate charter was drawn. The name of the company was to be 'The Rocker Lever Company' or “Fundição Balancins. This name was appropriate because the company was only in the business of producing rocker levers. Although Fundição Balancins has undergone tremendous growth, the name remains unchanged until today.

In 1964, Balancins was proud to open its machining division. The company now would offer machining services to the automotive industry.

Over the next few years, automakers had a hard time finding cast iron auto parts, known for their quality and reliability, at affordable prices. As a result, Balancins initiated its foundry division in 1970.

Since then, Balancins has dedicated itself to continual advances in technology and operative efficiency. Today, Balancins is proud of its ability to produce highly precise parts with a level of assured quality that remains unmatched in the world.
